I’ve never been very good at spring cleaning or actually – cleaning in general! But the one type of cleaning I am good at, is cleaning out my closet. Some people hate to purge & sort through their clothing items regularly, but I find it so satisfying! It really helps me stay organized & gives me an up to date inventory of what I have to help me make better purchase decisions regarding what I actually need. When’s the last time you went through and organized your closet? If it’s been awhile, this article is for you my friend! I’ve put together a few tips to consider that will make purging & sorting a little easier.

First, create three different piles: keep, toss, donate/sell.
Look at each individual piece in your closet and ask yourself these questions:
- Have I worn it in the last 6 months – year?
- Is it in good condition?
- Does it fit me properly?
- Does it make me happy?
If you answered yes to all four questions, keep the item! If you answered no to any of them – put the item in one of the other two piles.

I realize that getting rid of clothing items (especially items that hold sentimental value) can be really hard for some people. However, you are doing yourself a disservice when you hold onto clothing that no longer fits you, is worn out, or doesn’t bring you joy. So just get rid of it girl, then go out and treat yourself to something new instead!
Once you have finished sorting through all of your clothing, you could take things one step further and organize by item type & and then by colour. This should really help speed up the process each morning when you are standing in your closet trying to decide what to wear. If for example, you know you want to wear a button-up blouse that day, you just have to look in that particular section of your closet instead of searching through your entire wardrobe trying to find the blouse you had in mind.

I hope these tips have inspired you! Happy spring “cleaning” season to all!
