Not gonna lie you guys – I was so much more.. relaxed? during this pregnancy than I was with Violet! I assume that’s pretty normal though when you have a toddler running around at home to look after – the quiet baby in the womb takes a back seat until they officially join the family.
There were times I honestly forgot how far along I was and with Violet, I remember checking my app regularly to find out the exact amount of weeks/days until babe was due, what changes my body was going through at the time, what fruit size the baby was that week, etc… lol!
I felt like I already had pretty much everything I would need for a second baby – you know, all the essential stuff: a crib, stroller, bassinet, swing, clothes/bath supplies… It wasn’t until my third trimester I started thinking about a few little extra things that I either didn’t already have / should probably look at replacing or restocking.
So I’m going to share that list with you all just incase you are also currently preggo and feeling like you’re forgetting something!
A New Outfit.
regardless of whether or not you’re having the same gender as your first born, I think it’s a nice idea to get at least one new outfit for your newborn to wear. I mean, they’re gonna have to get used to having mainly hand-me-downs the rest of their life, so try to soften the blow a little by bringing them into this world with one thing they can call their very own lol.
Replace Vit D drops, nipple creams, breast pads, baby meds, etc.
I didn’t check the expiry date on all of the things I had leftover from when V was a baby until recently – oops! Here are a few of my favs that I’ve replaced for baby #2:
A New Water Bottle.
A follower recommended this to me – I love the idea! You need to drink a shit tonne of water while you’re breastfeeding and I’m not the best at drinking enough water regularly, so treating myself to a fancy new water bottle was definitely an idea I could get behind!
Baby Carrier.
There is a possibility you were able to make it through life without one of these with only one child – but now that you’ll have at least two.. I feel it’s a necessity. Some babies really dislike carriers though, so you might have to test a few out until you find one that works for both you and your babe. Here are a few I’ve tried/own and like:
Bassinet.
Most of you would already have one of these from your first pregnancy, but we didn’t! I borrowed a friends for the first month or so and V ended up hating it and sleeping in the swing anyways so we never bothered to buy one the first time around. I have my eye on an adorbs moses basket this time around! Pray that my second child will sleep without needing to be rocked unlike my first. lol
Replace your nursing bras / tanks.
I found my old ones hiding at the very back of my underwear drawer about a month ago… just gross. Replace those you guys!! They are a good (and necessary) investment the first few months of life with a newborn. Here are the ones I got this time around:
Newborn Diapers.
Since Violet no longer wears a diaper, I had to remind myself that we were going to need some of those around the house again! Image coming home with a new babe to no diapers… lol it’s definitely something me & my #mombrain would do.
Freezer Meals.
It was a blessing to have a fully stocked freezer the first few months of having Violet. You better believe I’ve been baking buns, bran muffins & casseroles like a mad woman during the last month of this pregnancy!
Extra Stroller Seat / Freerider for Toddler.
We have this stroller, so don’t have the option to get a second seat. Which is why I’m going to get one of these instead for Violet to hop on the back when we need to transport both babes somewhere in a timely manner.
New or Extra Cam for Baby Monitor.
Luckily our baby monitor came with two cameras! (Apparently the one we have is an oldie that is no longer available soo I linked this one which is the one I’d want if I needed to get a brand new one) So we just had to set up the second camera downstairs for Violet and the other stayed in the nursery.
Bottle Warmer / Sterilization system.
This is a bonus item that most of you with one babe already probably won’t need. But we could not get Violet to take any type of bottle for the life of us and I am convinced to get this little babe on a bottle ASAP so momma can pass the feeding duties on to dad every once and awhile! We are using this brand new bottle warmer, this sterilization set, and these bottles c/o Baby Brezza! I’ll keep you guys posted on my thoughts on these products over on Instagram.
*UPDATE: if you’ve been watching my Insta Stories, you know how much I love our Baby Brezza products! Seriously – such a life safer, especially if you plan to bottle/formula feed quite often. I have an over abundance of milk supply, so we currently aren’t using it much right now. However, we wouldn’t have survived the first few nights before my milk came in without the Formula Advanced Pro machine!! LOVE it.
