Holiday Fabrics & How to Wear Them
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! But it also can be one of the most stressful times to try to figure out what to wear. I’m breaking down the top holiday fabrics and how to wear them. You’ll be all set for the company Christmas party AND New Year’s Eve by the end of this article!
Sequins – This is probably the most popular holiday fabric of all! I personally love sequins, but it can be a bit overwhelming. I love pairing sequins leggings with a neutral coloured sweater or a chambray shirt for an easy, semi-casual holiday look. You also could go more formal by pairing a basic blouse with a sequins skirt or go all out with a full sequins dress! Just be sure to choose a sequins dress that flatters your body type & keep your heels relatively neutral. Not big into sequins? Tone it down but still look festive by opting for sequins accessories in the form of a clutch or jewelry!
Tulle – If you have been following my blog for a little while, you’ll know that I LOVE a good tulle midi skirt! All you need is a sweater (tucked in if it’s not a crop top), a tulle midi skirt, and your favourite pair of heels and you’re set for a holiday party! Keep your sweater and heels/booties relatively neutral – let your skirt be the focal point of the outfit. For a less formal look, pair your tulle midi skirt with either a plaid or chambray shirt tucking in or tied up in the front.
Silk – Silk fabrics are definitely trending this year! However, this fabric can be really tricky (and unforgiving) if it doesn’t fit your body properly. My favourite way to incorporate silk into a holiday outfit is in the form of a cami with a cute jacket over top or a slip dress with a shirt underneath. Silk can be so chic – so play around a bit until you find a style that you’re confident in and works with your body type!
Fur – Fur can make any outfit look more…expensive! You all know from the fall issue that I love a good fur vest. Fur instantly dresses up an outfit and can really add a unique flare. You can also incorporate fur into your holiday wear by putting on a fur coat or choosing fur accessories in the form of a scarf or hat. You’ll be warm AND look classy!
Velvet – Velvet is probably my favourite of all the holiday fabric trends this year. It seems people either love or hate velvet. I personally, cannot get enough of it! Velvet dresses, camis, blazers, accessories, even pants – gimme all the velvet!! Maybe just don’t wear them all at the same time.. haha. My favourite way to wear velvet is in the form of a long-sleeved midi dress or a structured blazer.
Each of these fabrics are fun ways to incorporate a little holiday cheer into your outfits this season. The main thing to remember is let whatever festive fabric you are wearing be the focal point of the outfit! This article was published in the November 2017 article of Refined Weyburn.
